7 must-see places in Szczawnica

If you are planning holidays in the Pieniny Mountains or Western Beskids it is worth going on a trip to Szczawnica. It is a health resort with over 150 years of tradition, which currently has 8 active springs. The health resort is located in the valley of the Grajcarka stream. Every year, it attracts tourists thanks to its picturesque location, proximity to the Pieniny National Park and nature reserves. It is also a base for tourists who plan to visit Slovakia. The city itself also offers a lot of attractions that are worth seeing while already on site.

What shall the to-see list necessarily contain?

1. Dietl Square

This is a representative square in Szczawnica. This is where the impressive buildings that the city is famous for, as well as restaurants and cafes, are located.

2. House on Zdroje

Also known as the Mineral Water Pump Room, is a wooden and historic villa that houses a spa with six drinkable mineral waters, as well as where seasonal exhibitions are held.

3. Promenade

Currently, it is the longest pedestrian street in Poland. It is 1,800 meters long. On the promenade there are benches and lots of landscape architecture, decorations and greenery. Despite the mountainous terrain, almost the entire promenade is located on flat ground.

4. Upper Park

This is a very beautiful and one of the most important places of Szczawnica. It is the oldest spa park there, dated back to the first half of the 19th century. The park itself is located on a hill and spreads above the city.

5. Homole Gorge

The most beautiful canyon in Poland, located near Szczawnica. The gorge itself is about 800 meters long and in places its wall height reaches 120 meters. The entire gorge constitutes a reserve, which means that you can only traverse the marked routes that several times cross the stream called Kamionka. In order to allow passage over the stream, in many places additional stairs and bridges have been installed.

6. Palenica

The peak in Szczawnica, which can be reached by chairlift. Its bottom is located at the marina that ends the Rafting on the Dunajec River. From the top of the peak, we can admire beautiful views of the Pieniny, including Trzy Korony and Sokolica. If the weather is good, we will also discern the Tatra Mountains.

7. Zaskalnik waterfall This is a renowned attraction of the spa. We can reach a high, 5-meter stream by a convenient road, and on warm summer days we can also meet water bath lovers there.
